Summer School of Crafts

Summer School of Crafts starts in Veliko Tarnovo on 14 August. Every day during the next month until 14 September, children and youngsters will be able to learn different traditional crafts, some dating back to medieval times and Bulgaria’s National Revival period in open-air workshops on Tsarevets Hill and in the craftsmen workshops along Samovodska Charshia. All who finish the summer crafts school will receive a special apprentice certificate from the master craftsmen, who has taught them.

The School of Crafts initiative is introduced by Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and the Municipal Tourism Agency “Tsarevgrad Turnov” and supports Veliko Tarnovo bid for European Capital of Culture in 2019. The aim is to provoke interest among the young people in traditional Bulgarian crafts and introduce cultural traditions and visual art basics to them.

The open-air workshops near the Pyramid of Independence on Tsarevets Fortress will start every day from 9:30 until 13:00. The workshops in iconography, calligraphy, manual production of paper and soap will be lead by specialists from “Tradition” Club.

Woodcarving will be taught until 14 September on Samovodska Charshia every Monday and Tuesday from 12:00 to 14:00, Pottery – on the same days from 13:00 to 15:00. Drawing classes are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00, Weaving workshop – from 12:00 to 14:00. On Fridays and Saturdays kids can attend the Jewellery workshop from 12:00 to 14:00 and again Woodcarving on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 10:30.
