Young and foreign audience went to "Cavalleria Rusticana" and "Gianni Schicchi" operas on Tsarevets Hill

Predominantly young people and hundreds of foreign tourists applauded the performance of "Cavalleria Rusticana" and "Gianni Schicchi" operas on Tsarevets Hill on 9 August, the penultimate night of the Open Air Opera Festival “Stage of the Ages”.

The two one-act operas were performed by Sofia Opera and Ballet in front of 1300 viewers, among them lots of young people and organised and individual tourists from Germany, England, France, Russia, Romania, Egypt, United States. The same two operas, "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni and "Gianni Schicchi" by Giacomo Puccini will be performed on 10 August at 21:00 for the final night of the Festival.

The Summer Open Air Festival “Stage of the Ages” is organized by Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and the Municipal Tourism Agency “Tsarevgrad Turnov”, together with Sofia Opera and Ballet. The event is one of the highlights of Veliko Tarnovo bid for European Capital of Culture in 2019. This summer the festival programme also included the opera "Madame Butterfly" by Giacomo Puccini, “Giselle” – a ballet by Adolphe Adam and "Zorba the Greek" a ballet by Mikis Theodorakis.
